Leukemia Patient To National Institute of
Health |
On June 25th, 2006, Mission Honduras LeMars
brought Ligia Erazo, along with her sister Virginia and brother Victor, to
the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, for a bone marrow
transplant. Ligia had been diagnosed with life threatening leukemia in her
native El Guante, Honduras. Along with a Honduran doctor, officials from
Mission Honduras LeMars pushed for her acceptance into the NIH research
study. Once Ligia was accepted the NIH rules called for a traveling
companion (her sister Virginia), and of course the donor, her brother
Victor. Ligia and Virginia remained at the National Institute of Health for
a period of about six months while she underwent all her tests and
treatments, while her brother Victor returned to Honduras in late summer.
Mission Honduras LeMars was pleased to provide them with transportation from
and back to Honduras and publicly thanks the National Institute of Health
and all their workers who conduct such life saving treatments. Ligia has been able to return to Honduras and
continues to do well. Much thanks to all involved.
